EVERY TIME IT RAINSThe Lighthouse
Parker Collins picked over her salad as the mysterious caller from last night echoed through her head. Who would kill someone and call my show? She wondered. Not one to be affected by such trivial statements, Parker sat back in her chair and sipped her drink.
There was something behind the caller’s voice that had shaken her to the core. There was something raw and desperate that made her wonder, if, just maybe, the caller was telling the truth. Parker took a bit out of her cob salad as she looked up to see Brett Abshire walk into the restaurant.
Brett noticed Parker and smiled. He liked her spirit and after their last run in, he decided to join her. Brett had listened to her show last night and knew that it was something she would love to talk about.
“Hi.” he smiled as he sat next to Parker.
“Hello!” she said with a slightly pert smile. “How’s Seattle been treating you today?”
“I’m still here, aren’t I?” Brett laughed a hearty laugh, which prompted Parker to smile. “I knew you had a gorgeous smile. Are you all right?”
Parker sighed as she put down her fork. For some reason she felt comfortable around Brett in a way she’d never felt before. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Oh. I heard your show last night.”
It wasn’t a topic that Parker wanted to discuss, but she knew it was unavoidable. Parker nodded her head and sighed. “It wasn’t one of my best nights.”
“I can imagine. I’m sure it’s not everyday that someone calls your show to tell you that they’ve 86’d someone.”
“It’s not.” Parker replied flatly. “It’s very unnerving.”
“What is?” Brett said as he got comfortable in his chair.
“The fact that a murder is out there and she feels the need to call my show is crazy. I wish she’d gone to the police. It may be good for the ratings, but I don’t like feeling like I’m harboring a criminal.”
“You’re not. I mean, what does she expect you to do? She needs help.”
Parker shook her head. She felt comfortable talking to Brett and she didn’t question why. “It’s not even the first time I’ve gotten a call like that.”
Brett sat up with a jolt. “Really?”
"Yes. I got one a while ago, but I thought it was a joke.” Parker took a small sip of her drink and looked Brett in the eye.
“But I know that this is far from a joke. Someone out there has committed murder and for some reason this person decided to call me up and tell me and I haven't a clue why."
Bonnie's Diner
Kip Lawson perused the daily newspaper as he sipped his coffee. He had just got off The Mystique the day before and was still feeling a little woozy. Those last few days on the ship were really rough, although...he thought as he smiled. Heath did make them bearable. Who would have thought that a boy he couldn't stand in the beginning turned out to be a really great guy? Kip couldn't imagine it at all. Usually if Kip doesn't like someone, he doesn't like them, end of story. There was something different about Heath.
"Thanks anyway." A voice made Kip lift his head to the front counter of the diner. It was Heath. He turned around and spotted Kip. "Hey! Kip!" He said walking over to him.
"Hey Heath." Kip stood up ready to give Heath a hug, but was disappoined when Heath brought out his hand in front of him to shake his hand. Kip immediatley shot his hand out and grasped Heath's. "Long time no see. Please join me."
Heath took a seat across the table from Kip. "Yeah tell me about it."
"I had no idea you were going to stay in Seattle." Kip said.
"Yeah well I am really trying to settle down somewhere, trying to make some money, start building a life for myself. I contacted my brother who lives here and I'm staying with him until I can get off on my own two feet."
Kip was surprised to hear this. "Wow, that's great. Well I hope Seattle is everything you hoped it would be and more."
"Thanks man. It's cool cause I already have friends here now. We should hang out more often."
Kip gulped. He was slightly taken aback. "Yeah, for sure. You, Danny,April, and I should all get together. What are you doing today?"
"Oh I am out looking for a job. Need to make money ya know."
"Any luck?"
"Nothing. I swear you would think there were no jobs left in the whole city."
Suddenly Kip had an idea. "Have you ever bartended?"
Heath looked at him with interest. "Yes I have actually."
Kip smiled. "I work at a club and we just lost a bartender and we need one ASAP with the annual After New Years bash coming up."
Heath arched his eyebrows. "An after New Years party?"
"Oh I know, but its a costume ball that happens after New Years. We're sort of having an after New Years party. To celebrate everything so far in the New Year."
Heath gave Kip an odd look and looked deep into his eyes until Kip started laughing.
"Ok, it's just an excuse to throw a costume party and make some money, but it's still gonna be great and we really need another bartender."
"Well I'm game if you can get me that job!" Heath exclaimed.
"Awesome. Let's go."
Heath quickly followed Kip out the door.

Courtney Harbor walked by Doug Hudson's office, when he spied her. She might be his golden opportunity to make Kimberly jealous. Doug quickly got up and ran to the door.
“Courtney, do you have a minute?” he asked.
Courtney looked at Doug with a bit of curiosity, for she wasn’t quite sure what Doug wanted. “Yeah. What’s going on?”
Doug ushered her into his office and motioned for her to sit on the sofa. “Not much. I just wanted to see how you were getting on here."
“I’m doing very well. Everyone has been so accommodating and I haven’t had any problems so far.” She said with a small laugh.
“Great. So Seattle is new to you, right?”
“Oh yes, my very first time here.”
“Oh? Why did you choose Seattle?” He asked, arching his eyebrows.
Courtney opened her mouth, finding words for what she wanted to say. "Just a change really. I don't have any more living relatives and I have heard Seattle was a nice place. After seeing pictures, I just decided to up and move."
"And is it everything you expected?"
Courtney let out a giant smile. “Oh, I love it. It’s so vibrant! It’s better than...,” she looked down as her voice trailed off.
The past is the past, she reminded herself.
“It’s more exciting than I ever could have imagined.” She corrected herself.
“How have you found the singles scenes…are you single?” Doug inquired as he tried to be deft.
Courtney tossed her hair back and gazed at Doug. “Of course I am. There are so many handsome men in this city. Once I’m more comfortable here, I should have no trouble finding that special someone.”
Doug realized that he’d better ask Courtney out then and there or else his plans to get back at Kimberly might fall apart. “Well, I hope I can help in the area.”
Courtney gave Doug an inquisitive look. “Can you?”
“Yes, ma’am. There’s a going to be a great costume party at Spade. Would you like to come with me?”
Genuinely excited, Courtney hugged Doug. “Yes, that would be wonderful. Thank you! I’d better find something to wear!”
Doug returned the hug. “I’ll let you know the rest of the details later. You’d better get back to work before Kimberly finds you around here."
Courtney jumped up and left the office on Cloud 9.
Doug watched her as he began to see all of the chips slowly falling into place.
Suddenly Doug heard a commotion outside his office. What is going on out there?
Collins Arch
Elise Mitchell's eyes felt like they were about to pop out of her head. She had been working so hard lately on this project. It had been while since she's had a break. She was probably gonna call it a day soon.
As Elise reached for the bottle of Excedrin in her desk, she suddenly heard this loud bubbling, popping sound coming from outside her door. "What is that?" Elise walked over to the door and opened it. She gasped and put her hands to her mouth.
In front of her stood her co-worker and recent suitor Russ Bridges wearing a black cape and vampire fangs. He held a microphone in his hand and a familiar song started to play on the radio next to him. He began to lip synch
"I was working in my lab late one night when my eyes beheld an eerie site. For my monster from the slab began to rise and suddenly, to my surprise...He Did The Mash! He did the Monster Mash!"
A crowd started gathering around the famous vampire lip syncer. Elise began to laugh hysterically. This was the absolute funniest thing she had ever seen.
Suddenly Russ approached her and grabbed her arms and started to dance with her. Elise couldn't stop laughing. She hadn't felt this great and free in a long long time. Her colleagues were all around her, lauging at the funny site, but for some reason Elise didn't care. She just let Russ take her wherever he would take her.
As the song ended, Russ gave Elise one last dip. "I vant to suck ya blood!"
Elise just laughed as the two gazed into each other's eyes.
Russ laughed right back. "And I want you to attend me at the costume party at Spade."
Elise looked at Russ for a second. Was there nothing he wouldn't do for her to say yes? She had to admit, it was a charming way to get her to go out with him.
"I will go with you, but only if you make even more of a fool out of yourself than you have today." Elise joked.
Russ smiled. "For just a yes answer, I will do anything."
Elise laughed as the colleagues gathered around began to clap their hands. He finally got her, she thought to herself.
Spade
Kip looked over at his boss and club owner, Joseph Lane quietly talking to Heath. Kip couldn't hear a work of what they were saying, but he was hoping it was good news. He couldn't tell.
When they arrived at the club, Kip talked to Joseph and told him how great of a bartender Heath. So Kip didn't really know how Heath was at bartending, but he believed what Heath said and it would be really cool for both of them together. Kip was very surprised to hear that Heath was staying in Seattle. From the stories that Heath told him on the cruise, he would just automatically assume that Heath would continue his rebellion against his family and travel the world. Maybe something happened?
Heath and Kip had already become really close and so maybe Kip made him feel comfortable enough to wanna stay in Seattle.
A movement from where Joseph and Heath were standing snapped Kip out of his own thoughts. Heath began to walk towards him with a somber look.
"Well?" Kip asked.
Heath shook his head and made a sad face. Kip suddenly felt a pain in his stomach. Suddenly Heath's frown turned into a grin. "He wants me to start Saturday at the costume party."
Kip slumped his shoulders and signed a huge sigh of relief. "That's great Heath!"
"Well he's going to see how I can handle the costume party and if I pass the test so to speak, he's going to hire me full time."
Kip was so happy for Heath. "That's great Heath. I'm really happy for you."
"Thanks Kip. Honestly I don't know how I could have gotten this job without you."
Kip could feel himself growing hot. "Oh no, it's fine. Anything to help."
"I mean I really appreciate it. No one has ever really helped me in life like that before. I mean, no one in my family has really helped me with anything, besides Doug. That was nice of you Kip."
With the last thank you, Heath leaned into Kip and wrapped his arms around him. The two shared a hug.
It was nice to see Heath so happy, Kip thought. It was even nicer that Kip could help him be happy.
Harbor
Parker and Brett walked down slowly on the dock by the water and talked about life and everything your supposed to talk about when getting close. They found a certain solace in the other, which neither one of them was about to admit. Parker viewed Brett as that dashing stranger she’d read about many times, but had yet to find. Brett knew that Parker was special, but how special was still to be seen.
“What are you doing on Saturday?” Parker asked Brett.
“Nothing to my knowledge…why?”
Parker decided that it was now or never, so she screwed up all of the courage she had inside of her. “I’ll be broadcasting live from Spade during the costume party, if you wanna stop by and check it out.”
Brett stopped and nodded. “I’d be more than happy to stop by.”
There was a spark as they were gazing into each others eyes…a moment when two people could be closer when Brett’s cell phone began to ring. Brett fished it out of his pocket, glancing at the caller.
“Damn. I have to take this.” Brett walked a few yards away from Parker.
“Hey…No, everything’s going well. Yeah…I’m on it and by the look of things; I think everything will get done sooner than anyone thought.”
