And now…

EVERY TIME IT RAINS

Doug's Apartment

Doug looked at his own reflection in the mirror as he finished tieing his tie. He ran his hands over his royal blue collar shirt, getting the wrinkles out. He looked back into the mirror and instead of looking at himself saw the image of his ex-wife and Ken Foster.

Ken Foster

Who the hell was he? Suddenly brisking into town and sweeping Kimberly off of her feet. Honestly he didn't know why he bothered. Kimberly was obviously head over heels about him. Doug cringed as he though about the two of them in her office.

Why didn't she realized Doug still loved her? What would it have to take?

It's your own fault Hudson. You let your hormones did the thinking for you. It was a decision he would live to regret his entire life.

That didn't matter. He still loved her and would for as long he lived and nothing, no dashing prince was going to stand in his way.

Knock! Knock!

Doug was startled by the sudden knock at the front door.

Doug gazed at his watch and made sure he was not going to be late to work. This better be short he though as he opened the door.

"Hello son." The smiling, scheming face of his father, Wes Hudson stood in front of him.

Doug frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Wes's smile disappeared. "Well that's a fine welcome for your own flesh and blood. No 'how are you dad?'"

"No." Doug said, his face not changing in the slightest.

"Well the least you could do is invite me in."

Doug sighed and opened up the door. "Come in father."

"Now that's better. I knew I taught you better manners than that."

Wes said, wisking right by Doug into the apartment.

"You sure taught me something about myself." Doug muttered.

Wes chuckeled as he plopped himself on the couch.

"Please make yourself at home."

"Thanks son. So how's my favorite son?"

Doug let out a laugh. "I'm great dad. By the way, when was the last time we spoke? Two? Three years ago?"

"Three." Wes grinned.

"Great." Doug sat down in a chair next to the couch. "How's mom and the others?"

"Well, your mother's and I divorce is alomst taken care of Thank the Good Lord. As far as your siblings are concerned well I am not really sure, I only keep up with Kyle, who's running the business while I am away. Heath" is somewhere around the world with whatever money he has and Emily is in Australia doing God knows what."

Doug shook his head. "I don't know how you do it dad. I really don't. You run a very successfull business and have a great family life."

Wes's expression suddenly turned grim. "I didn't ask for this Doug. It just happened that way. I can't help it."

"Yeah I forget no one has the right to choose. We just have to go where life takes us."

"I wouldn't be the one to talk son. Your choice cost you the love of your life."

Doug was suddenly taken aback. He felt a pain in his stomach, but shook it away. "Dad, what do you want? Why are you in Seattle?"

"I want to bring my business here. Figured I would branch off and become a little more successfull."

Doug shook his head and stood up. "I don't believe you dad. I know why your here."

Wes stood up and faced his son, giving him a challenging face. "Oh you do?"

"Yes I do father. You want to destroy Bennett Collins.

Collins Arch

Bennett Collins eyed the intercom as the buzzing of it rang through his ears. He gently pressed the talk button. "Yes Lauralei what is it?"

"I know you said you didn't want to be bothered but your daughter would like to see you."

Bennett smiled. "Of course she can come in."

Bennett stood up as almost immediatley the smiling face of Kimberly Collins entered the room.

"Hi daddy!"

"Hi honey." He met his daughter in front of his desk and gave her a big hug. "How are you doing?"

"Great. How's the day going?" She asked curiously.

"Oh I can't complain. Same old busy day. What brings you over here? Any questions?"

Kimberly smiled and walked back to the door. "Daddy, I want you to meet someone."

Bennett arched his eyebrows. Who was this Kimberly was going to introduce to him. A new boyfrien perhaps.

"While I was in Miami I met a great architect who I worked close with during our business down there. He's moved to Seattle daddy."

Bennett finally understood. This was the same way she started the conversation when she introduced his ex-son in law Doug to him. "Ya know Kimberly I just hired a great new architect."

"Now daddy before you go off the edge, he's a great architect. One of the best I've seen. He would really bring a lot to the firm."

"Kimberly the firm is doing very well right now."

"The firm could always do better."

Bennett shook his head. "This isn't about the firm is it?"

"Not entirely, but it certainly wouldn't hurt." Kimberly looked at him with puppy dog eyes.

"In case you don't remember Kimberly, the last man you recommended for my team ended up breaking your heart to piesces. When I wanted him to leave you asked me to keep him."

Kimberly gave a sad look and pressed her lips together tightly. Bennett shook his head and gave a small smile.

"I just worry about you darling. That's all." Bennett was suddenly taken back to the time she wanted to go to a high school senior party as a freshmen. He wouldn't let her go because of the older boys. She was mad at him all night, eventually getting over it by the next morning. Telling him she understood. Bennett sighed. She wasn't a little girl anymore. "Alright darling. I would love to meet him."

Kimberly smiled. "Thank you father." She turned around and walked out the door. Bennett walked back behind his desk and took a seat. KImberly entered once more this time a tall, striking man followed her.

"Daddy, this is Ken Foster. Ken, this is my father Bennett Collins."

Bennett put out his hand to shake Ken's. "Nice to meet you Mr. Collins." Ken said shaking Bennett's head firmly.

"Likewise Mr. Foster. Please take a seat." Bennett pointed to the chair in front of his desk.

Ken took a seat and made himself comfortable. Kimberly stood at the door. "Well I will leave you two to talk."

She gave a huge grin and then walked out the door.

There was a moment of silence between the two men that seemed to last forever. Finally Ken cleared his throat. "So I must say my firm back in Miami really admired your work. We look up and highly recommend Collins Arch."

Bennett smiled and clasped his hands together and placed them on his lap. "Do you now?"

Ken just smiled and nodded nervously.

Bennett gave a smirk. "Let's say we skip all this and get to the bottom of this. We both know why your sitting in this chair right in front of me. What are you doing with my daughter?"

Ken looked shocked.

The Lighthouse

“Yes, that’ll be fine. But lets see if we can get Marc Davidson for next Monday’s show. Thanks.” Parker Collins snapped her cell phone shut as she sighed with a smile.

Lately everything had been going very well with her show and she knew there was nowhere to go but up. She picked up the lunch menu and began to scan it when Brett Abshire walked into the restaurant.

Brett noticed Parker and was instantly taken aback. There was something behind her blazing eyes that instantly attracted him to her. Something was lingering in her soul that he could see, but he couldn’t quite grasp. He screwed up a bit of courage as he walked by her.

“Hey.” she called to Brett.

He stopped and turned to her. “Hello.” he said with a smile.

Parker found herself smiling back, to her delight. “What’s your name, handsome?”

Brett sized Parker up and he instantly knew that she was someone who always got what she wanted. “Brett. And you are…”

“The world famous Parker Collins!” Parker winked slightly feeling on top of the world.

There was a beat of awkward silence, but unbeknownst to each other, they were gauging the other. “I’ve never seen you around here before.” noted Parker.

“I just got to town,” he revealed.

“You must be famished. I’m about to order. Would you like to join me?”

Brett smiled with delight.

Collins Arch

"I'm sorry?" Ken muttered.

Bennett gave a slight laugh and stood up to walk towards the window. "Now I don't mean to be so abrupt Mr. Foster, but I need to know where exactley you stand with my daughter."

Ken looked much more nervous than he did when walked into the room. "Well I think you might want to ask your daughter to be certain, but I think it is safe to say we are slowly working our way towards a romantic relationship."

Bennett knew it. "I figured so much Mr. Foster."

"You can call me Ken Mr. Collins."

Bennett looked at Ken. "Thank you Mr. Foster. I am glad you learned to put that much trust into me already."

Ken stood up. "If I can say sir, I really get a feeling you don't like me very much."

Bennett sat on the edge of desk. "It's not like that Mr. Foster, I don't even know you. I try not to judge as best I can, but I look out for my family and that includes my oldest daughter."

Ken, looking much more relaxed nodded his head slightly and sat down.

"Now let me tell you a story Mr. Foster. Once upon a time there was a single, smart, successfull, independent woman who had everything going for her. She couldn't have asked for a better life. That is until she met a man she fell in love with. The two fell in love and to make a long story short, the schmuck toyed with her emotions and broke her heart, leaving me to guide her through this. I am sure you can tell this girl was Kimberly and the schmuck I regret to say still works for me."

"That's very noble of you."

"I didn't have much of a choice. My daughter wanted to be the better person, which she is, and asked me not to fire him and I am glad I didn't. He's one of the finest architects I have. We even have a pretty good friendship. However, I will never forgive him for what he did to her."

"I can understand sir." Ken gave Bennett another nervous smile.

"Now, I hired her ex-husband because I trusted her judgement and I was right. Doug Hudson brought me a lot of business. I trust my daughter and her judgement. However if my daughter ever has to feel the pain she felt when Doug Hudson hurt her I promised myself I wasn't going to be so nice."

Ken stood up and looked Bennett into his eyes. "With all due respect I could never hurt your daughter. I would never want to hurt your daughter. She deserves only the best and I would like to bring her that. I know what your saying sir and I know your not making any judgements. I hope we can become friends and you can trust me for the man I am and for the man I will be for Kimberly."

Bennett stared into Ken's eyes. These were almost the same words Doug Hudosn told him when he asked his permission to marry his daughter. Bennett could never let his guard down.

"You guys done in here?" Kimberly poked her head into the office.

"Yes darling, we are all done." Bennett said still staring into Ken's eyes who would not stop staring at Bennett.

"Great. I hope all went well." Kimberly walked up behind Ken.

Bennett stood up and gave Kimberly and Ken an approving smile. "Oh yes very much so. Kimberly, I want you to meet the newest archtiect at Collins Arch, Mr. Ken Foster."

Kimberly gave a huge smile. "Great!" She looked at Ken. "Congrats Ken! Welcome to the firm!"

"Thanks Kimberly. I appreciate it Mr. Bennett. I feel very fortunate."

Ken shook Bennett's hand again as Kimberly gave him a hug.

Bennett just looked deeply into Ken's eyes. Could Mr. Foster be trusted? Only time would tell.

The Lighthouse

Brett took a bit of his chicken as Parker finished divulging the finer points of radio ratings. “Fascinating.” Brett cooed. “How long have you been a radio host?”

“It feels like my whole life. It is my whole life.”

Brett took a sip of his water as he eyed Parker. “Are you related to the Collins’ of Collins Arch?”

Not wanting to discuss her family, Parker nodded. “What do you do?” she asked.

“A little of everything.” he shrugged.

“But I just have to know something…”

“What?”

“What brings a handsome guy like yourself to Seattle? Love? Marriage? Divorce?”

“You’re very deft. I’m also very single.”

Parker smiled internally. “I think being in a relationship is very overrated.” she cooed.

Brett leaned into her. “You’re not the only one, Miss Collins.”

“Please, call me Parker.”

“All right then.” The two shared a small moment smiling at each other.

Brett wiped his mouth. “That was a delicious meal.”

Parker put her fork down and nodded. She was having fun flirting with this one. “This is one of the best restaurant’s in town.”

“Well, I should be going. I had a lovely time.”

Parker began to rummage through her purse, when Brett put a $50 bill on the table. “It’s my treat.”

“I assumed that.” She stated confidentally. She handed him her business card. “Call me some time.” And with that, Parker slid from her chair, gave Brett a sexy smile, and tiptoed out of the restaurant door, swaying her hips from side to side.

This man had no idea what he was in for.

Brett watched her with mounting delight and eyed her card. Parker Collins, he thought intensely. What a woman…

Doug's Apartment

"What are you talking about Doug?"

Wes asked his son concerning his accusation.

"It's not a hidden agenda that you don't like Bennett. You shunned me for marrying his daughter and I know you guys have history. When I was growing up I heard many stories about your hatred for Bennett. It's ok dad, admit it."

Wes let out a laugh and walked towards the window of the apartment. "You think I'm a vengefull person?"

"Yes I do. I know you more than you think father."

Wes turned towards Doug. "I am not in town for Bennett. I assure you son. I simply want to branch out, which leads me to my next question." He walked towards Doug and placed his hand on his shoulder. "Doug, your my son and I want to start a new relationship with you. I want you to work for me here in Seattle."

Doug's mouth opened and his eyes suddenly felt big. He could not believe his father was asking him about this. His father who shunned him for his marriage and hasn't spoken a word to him in three years.

"Well Doug?"

"Dad I don't know what to say."

"Please say yes. Doug I want this to work out for us. If you can believe me I want to get my children back together again."

Was he being sincere? Did he mean this? He couldn't tell.

"Dad I don't know what to say. I have a good set up where I aM. This is what I went to college for and I'm working for one of the best firms in the country, I can't just give that up. I enjoy what I do."

Wes began to look angry. "At Collins Arch?"

Doug looked painfully into his fathers eyes. A man who he once wanted to please more than life itself. "Yeah. It's just something I would have to think about."

Wes shook his head. "If you wanted it, you wouldn't have to think about it."

Doug was speechless. He lowered his gaze. He could not stare his father in the face.

Wes shook his head, which now displayed a cold, hard stare and turned towards the door. "I'll be in town for awhile so if you need anything don't bother to call because I won't help." He stepped out onto the front porch and slammed the door shut.

"Damn you Bennett! You stole my children from me for good! Damn you to hell! You better watch your back Bennett. Once I'm done with you, your not gonna know what to do with your miserable life!" Wes yelled with a wicked, vengefull grin.
