EVERY TIME IT RAINS

Kimberly Collins Honda Civic

Kimberly Collins turned her steering wheel onto a long winding street. She was on her way to work on this bright, sunny day. Kimberly looked over at the park on her left and smiled as two squirrel's crawl up a tree. Her first day back yesterday from Miami had been a difficult one, but she now was refreshed and ready to get to work.

Of course Kimberly was also happy because it was the start of a weekend and maybe for a couple of days she could relax and not think of her family, Ken, and especially Doug.

She kept thinking about the moment yesterday when they almost kissed and couldn't believe how easily she had gotten caught up in the moment. That's exactly how he caught her eye when they first began dating. It even crossed Kimberly's mind that maybe he had changed. He was acting so sincere last night and maybe after realizing how much he hurt her, he had changed into a new man, a better man.

Kimberly knew better, she wasn't sure if she could ever trust him again. She needed to move on with her life and thinking about Doug and wondering if he's changed wasn't the way to do it. It was hard since Doug was the only man she'd ever given her heart to.

Suddenly Kimberly's thoughts turned back to Ken.

Kimberly smiles as his name lingers in her mind, Ken Foster. She wondered if she would ever see him again. Of course she would, she had too. She developed some feelings for him that she couldn't get out of her body. She thought about him trying to save his sister from a miserable life. He is a great guy, she thought. These feelings were so strong, maybe even stronger than what they were for Doug.

Kimberly smiles and thinks of Ken's handsome face smiling back at her. "I wish I could see you Ken." Kimberly whispers to herself.

Then before Kimberly could realize it, she missed a red light. Blinking her eyes, she heard the sound of a horn beside her.

Kimberly, not knowing what to do, screams.

Ken Foster's Rental Nissan Exterra

Collins Arch.

Ken Hudson read as he sped down the highway. According to these directions I have five more miles.

Ken’s thoughts began to drift to Kimberly Collins. How he missed her. Leaving everything behind is bad enough when it’s for your career, but when it’s for a woman; you put everything on the line.

Ken shook his head as the Seattle skyline peered above the horizon.

Ken sat at a red light as he eagerly waited for what he hoped would be the beginning of everything new with Kimberly. The light turned green and he proceeded to go, when a black sports car zoomed past him. He quickly slammed on his breaks, honking the horn furiously. Jerk, he screamed to himself. Kimberly danced through Ken’s mind as he remembered the first time they met…they first time he knew, or thought he knew, that love could exist. These pleasant memories continued to soar through his mind as he passed a quaint flower store.

“What a perfect surprise.” Ken decided as he pulled into the parking lot.

Kimberly Collins Honda Civic

Kimberly screamed and immediately sped up, hoping to get past the car. She sped up with success and could hear the echo of her scream and the blare of the horn from the car that was right beside her. Kimberly inhaled deeply and pulled over to the side of the road, trying to come to terms that it was her fault. She quietly put the car in park and put her head in her hands.

Get a grip on yourself Kimberly!

All that has been going on in her life, she didn't know what happened. She just lost train of thought.

Kimberly looked in the rear view window to check her makeup. That almost collision felt like a really long time. "You need a break girl." She said to herself, laughing. Kimberly looked back to see if the car she almost collided with stopped or was following her, but saw nothing. She turned back towards the road and shook her head. "No more thinking about Ken, no more. You're going to make me kill myself before you ever see me again Ken Foster." She said, giggling.

"Oh well. No one was killed."

Kimberly turned the key in the ignition and sped off to another day full of work.

Luhani Island

“Will you be all right?” April O'Reilly asked Kip Lawson as they departed the cruise ship.

Kip was able to sneak into his room during the wee hours of the morning without seeing Heath Hudson.

Kip nodded as he waved goodbye to Danny and April. “See ya back on board!”

Kip looked at the glorious scenery of Luhani Island. He decided to make the most of his day in paradise, while the lovers loved and the singles looked for it. Kip strolled down the town market, stopping at a souvenir stand. He lightly browsed, when he spotted the hottie from last night. Kip decided not to run, but to pretend as if nothing had happened. That, however, did not spot him from stealing a few glances at this fine man.

“Hi.” Zack smiled.

Coyly, Kip smiled back and continued to browse as Zack followed. What does he want? wondered Kip.

“Hey,” Zack called as Kip turned to him. “How are you doing today?”

Confused why Zack was talking to him, Kip knew he had to be polite. “I’m all right.” smiled Kip. Despite how he should’ve felt, he wasn’t nervous at all.

“I’m sorry about what happened last night,” Zack began, “that guy should’ve apologized.”

“He should’ve, but oh well. I’m actually sharing a room with him! Can you believe that?” exclaimed Kip.

“You two aren’t…”

Kip laughed at the idea. “Heavens no! The cruise company screwed up.”

Kip and Zack gazed at each other, a moment of mutual understanding and peacefulness.

“Are you alone?” Zack inquired.

“I’m here with two friends…a couple, so I guess so.”

Zack shifted a bit as he asked, “Would you wanna hang out today?”

“I’d love to.” Kip smiled.

Collins Arch; Bennett Collins Office

Bennett Collins knew his daughter would not be happy with this decision he had to make, but he had no other choice.

There was a sudden knock at his door.

"Come in!"

His lovely daughter, Kimberly, walked into his office with a huge smile on her face. "Hi daddy!" She said giving her father a slight hug.

"Good morning darling. How are you doing?"

"A little tired, but making it. You had to see me?"

"Oh yes, please sit down."

Kimberly sat down in the chair across from her dad's desk. "Is there something wrong?"

"Oh no, nothing at all. Just wanted to discuss your next project. You did an amazing job on the Miami project. There was no doubt in my mind you could not have done any better than you did."

Kimberly smiled. She loved it when her father complimented her. One of the things she cherished in life. "So what's next?"

"Well," her father seemed nervous. He stood up and walked around to the front of his desk and sat on the edge of his desk. "Kimberly you are one of my best architects here and I am not just saying that because your my daughter. You've proven yourself to be the best. I have a very important project coming up and it's going to take more than one designer."

Bennett noticed Kimberly's face slowly turn into a frown.

"Kimberly I need you to work with someone on this project. Another equally talented employee here at the office."

Kimberly stood up, as if afraid to hear what her father was going to say. "Daddy, who?"

"I want you to work with--"

Suddenly Bennett's office door flew open and in popped Doug Hudson. "You need to see me Bennett?" He noticed Kimberly. "Oh, hi Kimberly."

Kimberly's eyes flew open and she looked back her father. "Daddy!?"

Bennett gently nodded his head at Kimberly's horrified loking face.

Luhani Island

Danny Whittaker and April strolled down a picturesque street as the world passed them by. Danny wrapped his arms around April, the world in a state of harmony he’d never felt before. Everything seemed so right and made so much sense. Danny snapped back to reality as April let out a small cry.

“What’s up?” he asked.

April pointed to a small sign, which read: YOU KNOW YOUR PAST, KNOW YOUR FUTURE.

“A fortune teller?” Danny said.

“We should do it.” April suggested as she turned to Danny. She could see the skepticism in his eyes, but this was something she’d never done before. “Come on, Danny! It’ll be fun!”

Despite his reservations, Danny agreed.

They walked into the small house, which was no bigger than a Seattle studio apartment. It was dim inside, except for a few candles and a little lamp. There seemed to be no signs of life, until a tiny woman emerged from a curtain. Her presence slightly rattled Danny. There was something about her that didn’t quite sit right with him, but he kept this to himself.

“Sit. I am Madame Luce.” was all she said as she began to read their cards.

April was hooked instantly as she asked questions about love and life. Danny began to ease into it, until Madame Luce stopped in her tracks. She picked up a card and eyed it carefully. She put her head down most solemnly and muttered,

“Young lady, before you know it, your life will change forever. It will change in ways you’ve never dreamed. Everything you know and love will come crashing down around you…everything…” Madame Luce looked at April, her face as cold as stone.

April suddenly felt ill. This didn’t sit well with her and she had to get out. She felt as if she were suffocating. Without a word, she bolted from the house, her nerves running in overdrive.

Concerned, Danny through a few dollars on the table and chased after her.

Madame Luce stood and watched them leave. She saw the lovers embrace. She stared for a moment, but she knew that it would take more than love alone for that girl to weather the coming storm.

Collins Arch Employee Lounge

Courtney Harbor lifted her tray that consisted of a salad and chicken noodle soup. She looked around the lounge for a place to eat, noticing that the man she would like sit with, Doug, wasn’t there. She looked around and found another woman, about her age, eating by herself. Courtney smiled and walked over to the woman.

“Hi. Is this seat taken?” Courtney asked pointing to a seat next to the womans.

The woman looked up and smiled with a welcoming look. “Sure. Go right ahead.” She said moving some stuff on the table.

“Thanks. I’m new here and I don’t really know anyone yet.” Courtney explained getting herself situated in the seat.

“You’re new here? I am too.” The woman said, lifting her voice in a small tone of excitement.

“I’m Courtney Harbor. I am Kimberly Collins secretary.”

"Just started as an architect. I’m Elise Mitchell."

Courtney shook her head and smiled. "Pleasure to meet you Elise."

"Likewise." She replied. "So, have you lived in Seattle a long time?

“Nope. I actually just moved here about two months ago. From out east.”

“Really?” Elise replied. “I’m from the east as well and I’ve been in Seattle for about two months too.”

Courtney looked up at Elise. “Wow, we seem to have a lot in common. I think I was meant to walk over here.” Courtney joked.

Elise laughed. “I think so. How do you like working here?”

“Oh it’s fine. I’m so glad I got the job. It pays a lot more than my last job. Now I’m hoping to get a really nice apartment and get out of the dump I live in now. I just need to find a roommate. Those aren’t very easy to find. A sane one anyway." Courtney explained with a slight laugh.

“You’re looking for a roommate?” Elise asked curiously.

“Yes I am, why? Know someone?” Courtney asked.

“Courtney you’re going to find this a little weird, but I am looking for a roommate.”

Courtney looked astonished. “Really? Wow, that’s so weird.”

“Yeah it is. I mean I live in a nice place now and with this new job I can handle it financially, but it would be nice to have a little bit extra spending cash every month.”

“Yeah I understand.” Courtney replied.

The two sat in silence for few seconds. Courtney was hoping Elise would say something she wanted to hear.

“Hey Courtney, I don’t know why I’m asking this since I just met you, but I just feel like I should for some reason. Would you like to move into my apartment?”

Courtney was hoping that Elise would ask her this but not this soon. “Really? Oh that sounds great!”

“I mean come by tonight and see if you like the place. I wouldn’t normally do this since I just met you, but I think we could really get along well.” Elise explained getting out a piece of paper and writing down her address.

“Well thank you Elise. I’m glad you feel that way. I feel that way too.” Courtney replied happily.

“Great!” Elise said giving Courtney her address. “So come by tonight and see how you like it.”

“Sounds great!” Courtney said thankfully and feeling happy that she wouldn’t have to worry about a roommate. “I’m sure I’m going to love it.”

Luhani Island

Kip and Zack walked along the beach with drinks in hand as they talked about their lives. They found each other a refreshing distraction from everyday life.

Kip peered into the distance as he saw someone running towards him.

“Not again.” he muttered.

“You okay?” Zack asked.

Kip pointed at the person, who was not alone, coming towards him. “That’s my roommate and his…someone.”

“Hey buddy,” Heath crowed as he and his lady friend smiled at them. “This is my newest friend, Amber.”

“Like that song.” she giggled.

Kip extended his hand. “I’m Kip and this is Zack.”

“Well what are you two guys up to?” Heath asked.

“Just walking…relaxing.” Kip sighed.

“Hey! I have the best idea! Lets go swimming!” Heath stated.

Kip wanted nothing to do with Heath. “I don’t think so…”

“Come on! You already have a bathing suit on! Zack, what about you?”

Zack shrugged. “It might be fun.”

“Fine.” Kip agreed as they all began to get into the water.

The oceans warmth amazed Kip as he and Zack swam around each other. Amber splashed Heath playfully as he tried to kiss her and dunk her. Heath glanced at Kip and he saw how happy he was with Zack. Not one to be left out of the fun, he dove into the water and disappeared from sight. Kip suddenly noticed Heath was gone and sighed. Peace at last.

He and Zack moved towards each other, when Kip felt something tugging at his bathing suit. “Hey! Hey!” he screamed as Heath managed to pull it off and quickly swam away.

“What’s wrong?” Zack asked.

Kip turned beet red, but how could he tell Mr. Perfect he was Mr. Commando?

“Kip, are you all right?” Zack asked again. He could tell something was off, but what?

Heath and Amber swam to shore, as Heath smiled at his misdeed. “Guys, lets get something to eat!” called Heath. “Lets go!”

Zack began to swim to shore, when he turned to Kip. “Coming, Kip?”

Mortified, Kip found himself in the most precarious situation of his life.

Collins Arch; Kimberly Collins Office

Kimberly finished filling out more papers on her desk and tossed them into a folder and threw the folder on the corner of her desk. She leaned back in her chair and wiped her eyes with her hands. I do not want to be here today. She didn't feel like doing anything at all anymore. Maybe I'll take the rest of the afternoon off. That would be nice.

She couldn't believe that she and Doug had to work on this project together. Why did her father do that to her? Does he want to torture her? She thought she was being nice by asking her father to keep Doug employed. When Bennett found out about Doug's infidelity, he was more than ready to fire him.

Kimberly wiped her eyes when there was a knock at the door. Where was Courtney?

"Come in!"

Just like clockwork, Doug opened the door and entered her office with a huge grin.

"Oh Doug, I was thinking about you."

"Good I hope."

"Oh yes. You reminded me to take some tylenol for my headache."

Doug laughed. "Oh Kimberly. Why aren't you a stand up comedian again?"

"Doug I really don't have time to talk about what you wanna be when you grow up. What do you want?" Kimberly began to dig through her drawers for tylenol.

Doug's face looked serious. "We made our peace yesterday did we not?"

Kimberly peered into his eyes. "Yes Doug, good point. We did. I have to apologize for my behavior. I am just very exhausted."

"I understand Maggie."

"Who?"

Kimberly asked strangly.

"No one. I just wanted to remind you of our meetings for the project next week. Here is a list of all of them."

"Thank you Doug. I already have the schedule, but I appreciate it."

Doug looked disappointed. He stared down at the floor. "Well how about we get together this weekend to plan out things we would like to talk about."

Kimberly sighed. Would he ever give up? "Sure Doug, just give me a call. Now I am sorry, but I really need to finsh up some work."

"Sure thing. Have a good weekend."

Doug said, looking like a scared dog as he walked out her office door.

Kimberly put her head on her desk. She was just so sick of thinking period. Her mind needed a massage. Suddenly she heard her office door open.

"Ugh," She grunted. "Doug I really need to be left---" Kimberly looked up into the set of the most gorgeous eyes she'd ever seen.

"Ken!" She exclaimed.

"Hi Kimberly." He walked towards as she walked from behind her desk to meet him. He gave her a dozen roses. "These are for you."

Kimberly wasn't sure how to react. Was he really here? This wasn't just her mind playing tricks on her. She wrapped her arsm around his neck.

"Oh Ken! Oh my! You're actually here! What are you doing here?" She asked, looking back into his handsome face again.

"Well, I'll be honest with you. I'm here because of you."

Kimberly was shocked. "Me?"

Ken gently touched the side of Kimberly's face. "I can't bear to be away from you Kimberly. I can't stop thinking about you."

Kimberly smiled. She was so happy this wasn't a dream. "I have been thinking about you too."

"I'm here for good Kimberly. I'm moving to Seattle."

Kimberly was astonished. What was happening? This only happened in movies and soap operas. Ken eased his face towards Kimberly's and the two embraced in a sweet, romantic kiss. A kiss that Kimberly would never forget.

Neither Kimberly nor Ken noticed another face full of surprise. Doug Hudson stood outside the open office door, mouth open, not believing what he was hearing.

She had moved on from Doug. He could not believe it!

This certainly was not going to stop him. Doug frowned. Oh no. Not at all. Kimberly was his and only his.

This was far from over
